See the Director's The Odyssey Trailer the Way It Wasn't Meant for Viewing.

The acclaimed filmmaker's mythic action epic, The Odyssey, is a film audiences have been anticipating since its announcement. It easily ranks as one of the most awaited films of 2026. In a festive surprise, a trailer has finally arrived, even if it's compromised by YouTube's poor compression—maybe illustrating the director's choice to restrict the preview exclusive to cinemas.

The Initial Look at the Legendary Cast

The debut footage showcases Matt Damon in the role of the king of Ithaca. Audiences are introduced to Tom Holland as Telemachus alongside Anne Hathaway depicting the loyal wife. In a poignant moment, the character pleads with her husband to vow he will return, only for him to respond by asking what happens if he cannot. The trailer also offers a quick, obscured look of the mythical one-eyed giant, whose flock are taken by the hero and his men during their arduous journey.

Adapted from a foundational pillar in classic storytelling, The Odyssey follows the epic journey undertaken by the famed ruler. After his triumph in the Trojan War, which is depicted within the companion epic, Odysseus endures an extended and hazardous road home.

Mythical Encounters and a Star-Studded Lineup

Along his path, Odysseus confronts numerous obstacles and mythical beings. These include the witch-goddess Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, and the deceptive Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, his sworn oath is to do whatever it takes to reunite with Penelope and Telemachus in Ithaca.

The adaptation's cast boasts an impressive lineup. Joining Damon, Holland, and Hathaway are Charlize Theron as the cunning Circe, alongside Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.

A Tale of Many Adaptations

The classic poem has inspired numerous adaptations over the years. Examples include modern retellings and a late-90s dance production. It has even been adapted into a musical titled Epic: The Musical, presented as a nine-album collection.

A full-length preview was long awaited since the film's announcement and a short teaser clip which was initially shown only on the big screen. That footage later made its way onto the internet soon after.

For a superior viewing experience, the trailer posted on the film's official social channel may provide enhanced visual quality.

The Odyssey is scheduled for release in IMAX theaters worldwide next summer.
